Where we are
Lugo is a lively and friendly town situated in the heart of Romagna
Of ancient origins (the city gates were found remains of a Neolithic village of the fifth millennium BC), reaches major under the Estensi in the fifteenth century, when it became the capital of the coast, or Romadiola, as it was then that part of Romagna. It is at this time that dates the current appearance of the fortress, one of the landmarks.
Another emblem of the city dates back to the late eighteenth century: the Pavaglione, quadrangle designed for commercial purposes in order to favor the development of the market and fair (held there even now), among many other events. It is during those years, moreover, that the old town takes its present with the implementation of other relevant civil and religious buildings such as the Theater (named after Gioacchino Rossini), the Hospital of Madonna del Limite and of Palace Trisi, now home the Municipal Library. In the center you can admire the monument dedicated to Lugo’s most famous citizen: Francesco Baracca, a heroic airman of the First World War, died young in action after having won with skill and recklessness the title “Ace of Aces”. A figure of chivalrous hero and innovator that well represents the characteristics of the Lugo citizens and whose relevance is confirmed every day by the fact that the arms he wore on his plane, the Prancing Horse, has been donated after his death from the family to Enzo Ferrari who made the mark of their cars and that has now become a symbol of Italian style in the world. The city museum that bears his name is a must see. An interesting artistic heritage, an attractive cultural program, an extensive commercial network, a program of events that embrace the full year, combined with warm and sympathetic character of Lugo and a food that needs no introduction, make it enjoyable visiting Lugo, the city of the Prancing Horse.
